Frequently Asked Questions

How can we help?

Sharing & support circles

Who can join?

We welcome women of any stage of pregnancy into our Mama-to-be Nurture Circles and any mums with a new-born to pre-crawling baby into our Mama Nurture Circles. We embrace diversity in background, sexual orientation, age, race, religion, etc and welcome first-time mums and mums with other children.

How many people will be in my circle?

We restrict the numbers in all of our Nurture Circles to a maximum of 15 in order to maintain an intimate atmosphere and to give everyone sufficient time to be heard. Please bear in mind that the numbers may be capped lower than 15, but they will not exceed 15.

When should I join?

Please join us whenever you are ready. Our Mama-to-be Nurture Circles are suitable for any stage of pregnancy, so if you are pregnant please join us as soon as you are ready to do so. Our Mama Nurture Circles are suitable from newborn, so again please look for a course that starts around the time that works for you. !

Why are Basking Babies Nurture Circles different from other mum & baby groups?

Our Nurture Circles are a community and the content of each class is led by the women in the group. We have time each week to talk about what you need most, whatever that topic may be. Our circles are the beginning of lasting friendships that continue well beyond the sessions.

Why should I join?

Being pregnant or having a new baby is a big adjustment, whether it is your first or fifth child. It is so important to have a supportive community of other women who are experiencing a similar journey to you at this time. It can make the world of difference to have people to share your concerns with and to be heard in a supportive, safe, non-judgemental space. Join us to find your tribe to help you navigate through what can be vulnerable and challenging times.

Can I drop-in to one week or start mid-course?

Unfortunately we can not accommodate drop-ins because each week the group get to know each other more and share details of their lives so it doesn’t work to just come for a session or two. Instead we create a wonderful atmosphere with a committed group of women who have a safe and supportive place to return to each week. Our circles are closed after the second meeting of the course.

What if I am going to miss a week? Is there a way to make-up?

Due to the nature of circles, unfortunately there is no way to make-up any sessions that are missed and we are unable to provide refunds for any missed sessions.

What is your refund policy?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds unless the leader is unable to provide the circle that you have paid for. If a class is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. the leader’s child is ill, severe adverse weather, issue with the venue etc), every effort will be made to rearrange the session missed – whether this be rescheduled for a different date, or rescheduled online.

Can I give Nurture Circles as a gift?

Absolutely! It’s a wonderful alternative to more baby “stuff.” You can buy gift vouchers for any amount of your choice from our online shop. The voucher will arrive immediately into your inbox for you to either email on or print out as you wish. They make the perfect baby shower or newborn gift and are valid for 1 year from purchase.

What if the time doesn’t work for me?

Please let your local instructor know so that we can offer more circles if we possibly can. We would love to include you in a future group if we can.

Pregnancy relaxation

What stage of pregnancy is this class suitable for?

This series is for women at any stage of pregnancy. Relaxation has so many benefits whether you’ve just started on your pregnancy journey, or whether you’re in your final trimester.

Does everyone have their camera on for the session?

Our pregnancy relaxation classes are completely relaxed, informal and a safe, non-judgemental space where we want you to feel truly comfortable. We welcome you to join us as you are! No effort is required. Some Mums-to-be will join us on their sofa, others will already be in bed and pyjamas are very welcome! Most of the time Mums-to-be seem to enjoy having their cameras on for the first part of the class where there is conversation between the group, then they turn their camera off and mute themselves for the relaxation section. Everyone is individual and your preferences may vary from session to session, so please do as you need to to make sure that you are comfortable.

Do you offer pregnancy relaxation classes in-person?

We will happily provide private in-person pregnancy relaxation classes – either 1-1 or group sessions in a location of your choice. However, we also offer online pregnancy relaxation classes because it allows Mums-to-be to enjoy the class from the comfort of their own home, with no need to go anywhere and the flexibility to join in their pyjamas if they wish!

I feel anxious in my pregnancy, is this course for me?

Pregnancy is a special time that can be filled with wonder and excitement in bringing new life into this world, but here at Basking Babies we recognise that it can also be a time of worry or concern. We believe that looking after Mum’s mental health during pregnancy is just as important as their physical health. That’s why we designed this course – sharing a variety of relaxation techniques for both mind and body that can empower women for pregnancy, birth and beyond.

What if I have no prior experience of relaxation or meditation?

No prior experience is necessary.  Relaxation is learned though, it’s like a muscle. So don’t worry if it feels like it’s not coming naturally, give it time. This course includes a variety of different relaxation techniques, and it’s natural that you may prefer some over others. That’s really ok. It’s not about becoming an expert here, or needing to use every technique to reap the benefits. Relaxation is what’s important, and we’re offering you an invitation to find out what works for you.

Can we buy gift vouchers for your classes?

Yes of course. You can buy gift vouchers for any amount of your choice from our online shop. The voucher will arrive immediately into your inbox for you to either email on or print out as you wish. They make the perfect pregnancy or baby shower gift and are valid for 1 year from purchase. Gift vouchers can be redeemed against any of our Basking Babies products or services.

Do you offer private 1-1 and group classes?

Yes, absolutely. If you would like any of our classes as a 1-1 session, or would like to get a group of friends together, at times and days that suit you, we are more than happy to help. Please contact your nearest instructor to arrange this if you are based in Essex, or email us at [email protected] if you are outside of Essex to arrange an online class.

In your group classes what is the size limit?

We restrict the numbers on all of our group classes to a maximum of 8 parents in order to maintain an intimate atmosphere. We like to make sure that everyone in the group has appropriate attention from the instructor and we encourage conversation and peer-support between parents so that friendships can form wherever possible. Please bear in mind that numbers may be capped lower than 8, but they will not exceed 8.

Baby massage & reflexology

How old should my baby be?

Baby massage and baby reflexology are suitable to enjoy from birth. Our Prepare Us: introduction to baby massage course is suitable for expectant parents to enable you to get ahead before baby is born. The majority of our baby massage classes are suitable from birth until crawling, such as Nurture Me: baby massage & baby reflexology, Super Dads: baby massage for dads and Extended Love: baby massage with someone special . Our Colic Combat: colic alleviation & prevention course is best to learn as early as possible during the colicky period (between 0-12 weeks).

Is it possible to attend class with multiples, so for instance, twins or triplets?

Definitely! We are very multiples friendly and don’t charge any extra for multiples – so you can enjoy paying the same price as those attending with only one baby. In our classes anything goes and the babies are most definitely in charge…which means that at any one time there are often some babies sleeping, feeding, having a nappy change etc, so you wouldn’t need to worry that both your babies weren’t being massaged at all times. You can just move between your babies as you feel best, depending on which of them is ready for a massage at the time. You are also welcome to bring another adult with you if you’d like to, but this is space dependent so just needs to be confirmed with the relevant instructor first. We don’t offer to massage your baby for you because one of the amazing benefits of baby massage is the bonding experience between you and your babies, which we wouldn’t want to detract from.

Can we buy gift vouchers for your classes?

Yes of course. You can buy gift vouchers for any amount of your choice from our online shop. The voucher will arrive immediately into your inbox for you to either email on or print out as you wish. They make the perfect baby shower or newborn gift and are valid for 1 year from purchase. Gift vouchers can be redeemed against any of our Basking Babies products or services.

Do you offer private 1-1 and group classes?

Please contact your nearest instructor to arrange this if you are based in Essex, or email us at [email protected] if you are outside of Essex to arrange an online class.

What if baby has a medical condition?

Whilst baby massage & reflexology can greatly assist with many normal baby discomforts, if baby has any additional medical conditions we would recommend that you get consent from your GP prior to attending.

How does it work if baby wants to feed, sleep or have a nappy change during the class?

In our classes baby is in charge. We encourage parents to meet the needs of babies as and when the need arises. We want all parents to feel completely comfortable at any point in the class to do exactly what they need/want to do. So whether it is breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, baby wants to sleep, baby needs changing etc.. anything goes! The classes are always relaxed and informal, so you should feel relaxed to do as you need to. They are also informative and social, so if  baby isn’t being massaged there is always so much to enjoy from the class.

What if baby has injections near to one of the classes in the course?

The general guidance is not to massage baby for up to 72 hours after injections and we would never want to massage a baby who is poorly post injections. Ultimately it is up to the parent, if they feel that baby has not reacted adversely following injections then they may like to massage baby as normal, whereas if baby is unwell afterwards they may wait a few days.

It is incredibly common that injections clash with our courses due to the age of babies and the age injections are given, but we always recommend that you still come along to the session if possible to learn the massage moves. This happens with lots of parents and they are usually really pleased that they came after the jab experience, even if they aren’t able to massage their baby, for a bit of relaxation and a nice cuppa!

It is also good to remember that it is not unusual in anyway for some babies not to have a massage during the class time. It may be that they are having a feed, a nappy change, a sleep, or simply not in the mood for a massage at that particular point. But, there is so much to gain from the session that it really doesn’t matter at all.

My baby suffers from wind/constipation/colic – which is the best course to sign up to?

Baby massage can definitely help with wind/constipation/colic and there are a couple of different options for you; either a one-off Colic Combat session or joining the next Nurture Me course (and you can choose whether to do these as group, private or 1-1 courses). In the 1.5 hour Colic Combat session you’ll learn a colic alleviation & prevention baby massage routine which is highly effective and specifically combats wind, congestion and colic. You will also learn useful settling techniques. All the information in this Colic Combat session is also covered within the Nurture Me course on session 2 (along with our full body baby massage and much more). So really it depends on how badly your baby is suffering and whether the timing of the next Nurture Me course works for you. Many parents choose to join us for a Colic Combat in the early days to prevent or alleviate the problems as quickly as possible, and then they join the next Nurture Me course

Is baby massage suitable for premature babies?

Yes! There are so many incredible benefits of baby massage and research has shown that premature babies can particularly benefit from the power of positive touch. It has been proven how baby massage can help with weight gain, aiding the development and function of the digestive system and in encouraging the bonding process (along with many others). If baby is small then we can always miniaturise the strokes that you learn in class. Your instructor can help you with this.

In your group courses, what is the class size limit?

We restrict the numbers on all of our group classes to a maximum of 15 parents in order to maintain an intimate atmosphere. We like to make sure that everyone in the group has appropriate attention from the instructor and we encourage conversation and peer-support between parents so that friendships can form wherever possible. Please bear in mind that numbers may be capped lower than 15 as it depends on the space within the venue, but they will not exceed 15.

Baby yoga

How old should my baby be?

Baby yoga is suitable to enjoy from 3 months. We have a rolling programme which is specifically designed depending on the age/stage of baby’s development. So you can move through the stages of baby yoga as baby progresses. We offer baby yoga for pre-crawlers, baby yoga for those nearly/just crawling, baby yoga for those nearly/just walking and baby yoga for tots.

Are your baby yoga classes for both parent and baby or is it just yoga for the baby?

Our classes include a careful balance of moves for both the parent and the baby. You will learn many moves and songs designed to be beneficial physically and mentally for you and your baby, but most of all the classes are fun, friendly, informative and relaxed.

Does the parent need to have prior experience in yoga?

Definitely not – there is no prior experience in yoga required. Our classes are truly inclusive and open to all, whether you have done yoga before.

Is it possible to attend class with multiples, so for instance, twins or triplets?

Definitely! We are very multiples friendly and don’t charge any extra for multiples – so you can enjoy paying the same price as those attending with only one baby. In our classes anything goes and the babies are most definitely in charge…which means that at any one time there are often some babies sleeping, feeding, having a nappy change etc, so you wouldn’t need to worry that both your babies weren’t enjoying baby yoga at all times. You can just move between your babies as you feel best, depending on which of them is ready for yoga at the time. You are also welcome to bring another adult with you if you’d like to, but this is space dependent so just needs to be confirmed with the relevant instructor first. If your baby is happy for the instructor to demonstrate with them, the instructor can do some baby yoga with one of your babies at times, if that is helpful to you.

What if baby has a medical condition?

Whilst baby yoga can greatly assist with many normal baby discomforts, if baby has any additional medical conditions we would recommend that you get consent from your GP prior to attending.

In your group courses, what is the class size limit?

Please contact your nearest instructor to arrange this if you are based in Essex, or email us at [email protected] if you are outside of Essex to arrange an online class.

In-person classes

What do I need to bring to class?

If there are products and handouts included as part of the course, your instructor will give these to you at the venue as appropriate. For baby massage, we ask that you have a towel for baby to lie on. You can either bring your own or you can buy one of our super soft Basking Babies towels from your instructor and they can bring it to your first class. For baby yoga, there is nothing specific to bring, please just make sure that you and baby are in comfortable clothes so that you can both move freely.

Is there any venue specific information that I need to know?

The Basking Babies team try very had to choose ideal venues in terms of accessibility, parking, and making sure parents and babies are sufficiently comfortable in the room. If there is any venue specific information that we feel would be helpful for you to be aware of we will include this in the reminder email that we send to you one week prior to the start of the course.

If I can’t make one of the classes, can I have a refund for the session?

Unfortunately we can’t offer refunds if classes are missed for any reason. However, your instructor will of course happily ‘catch you up’ with the information that you will miss or have missed. Where a pre-recorded video of the session is available, this will be sent to you.

What is your general refund policy?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds unless the instructor is unable to provide the tuition that you have paid for. If a class is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstance (e.g. the instructor’s child is ill, severe adverse weather, issue with the venue etc), every effort will be made to rearrange the session missed – whether this be rescheduled for a different date, or rescheduled online.

I booked really far in advance for my course, but now I’m not ready to start – what do I do?

If you have booked a course well in advance but your circumstances have changed and you’d like to defer your start date, we will always accommodate transfers to different courses wherever possible.

Live online classes

What platform do you use to deliver the on-line classes?

We are using Zoom. Your instructor will send you a link for the class by email. You simply click on the link a little before the start of the class, which will then ask you to download the software if you don’t have it already, and you will be in the Basking Babies live online classroom!

Do I need any special technology to be involved in the class?

All you need is a phone, tablet or laptop – just something to be able to view the class from. Some parents have enjoyed linking their device up to their TV so they can watch on a big screen – but it also works just as well from your phone.

Do I need to have anything ready at home for the on-line classes?

If there are products and handouts included as part of the course, then these will be posted out to you so that you have them before the start of the course (providing that you have booked with sufficient time prior to the start of the course to allow for postage). For baby massage, we recommend that you have somewhere comfortable to sit for the session where baby can lie in front of you, ideally on a towel. For baby yoga, it would be ideal if you have a mat/blanket for baby to lie on, a cushion to use when needed, and for both you and baby to be wearing comfortable clothes that allow for movement.

Do you still cap the numbers for your group on-line classes?

Yes, our maximum numbers for a group on-line course is 15. We still want to deliver the same quality classes as we do face-to-face, where we are able to ensure that everyone in the group has appropriate attention from the instructor and that we can encourage conversation and peer-support between parents so that friendships can form wherever possible.

Can we buy gift vouchers for the live on-line classes?

Yes, our gift vouchers can be used for any of our Basking Babies products or services.

Do you offer private 1-1 and group classes live-online?

Absolutely, we can offer any of our classes as 1-1 sessions or private group classes live-online. So, if you’d like a 1-1 session in the comfort of your own home at times to suit, or if you’d like to get a group of friends together and choose the days/times of your sessions please contact your nearest instructor if you are based in Essex or email [email protected] if you are outside of Essex.

If I can’t make one of the classes, can I have a refund for the session?
